It's been a peaceful festive season. We've eaten lots, we've drunk a teeny bit and we've chatted and laughed and enjoyed spending time with our friends and family. Both cats enjoyed exploring our present sacks, with Iggy in particular becoming extremely comfortable inside mine!
Today the honeymoon is over. We awoke to the fiercest winds we've experienced, possibly ever. Our neighbour's garden bin flew across the street and smacked into our wee car, our windows shuddered and groaned under the pressure and we listened as a slate slid down our main roof and bounced off the kitchen extension roof, taking a pan tile with it.
And we've been lucky. Our neighbours have smashed chimneys, collapsed sheds and fences and the village war memorial was pushed over by what must have been a massive gust of wind. Fife has been cut off this morning with all the bridges closed for a while, and most airlines have cancelled flights to and from Edinburgh airport as the delays were so long they wouldn't be able to get a time slot to land or take off.
I'm guessing it'll take a while to put things back to normal for an awful lot of people...
This used to be a chimney!
The village war memorial - fortunately it doesn't appear to have broken,
so could probably be put back up without requiring repairs.

Glad you had a good Christmas, but sorry the weather has hit you. I hope it calms down quickly and you don't have any more damage
