Weekend on Mull

It's Monday night and we're back from a long weekend on the stunning island of Mull.

From the ferry - this is the moon!

After an incredibly fierce day of storms and hurricane force winds on Thursday, we decided to set off on Friday as planned. Arriving in Oban in time for the ferry across to Mull, we were informed that the island was without power. We were nearly there however, so decided to just head across.

We had our b & b booked up, so at least we would have a bed, if not warmth. Fortunately Tobermory had already been reconnected so we were absolutely fine. And then it snowed! Tobermory is on a fairly steep hill so we had an entertaining slither down to the harbour for our dinner, and a tough trudge back up again afterwards. Still, it burned some of the calories off.....

Saturday and Sunday were spent at Glengorm Castle, the location of the final races in the Scottish Cyclocross season. This is the most stunningly beautiful location, but it was a nightmare journey getting to it - a single track road with passing places, which is normal for the highlands, but combine this with a slippery snow covered surface, a few sheer drops at the sides and some impressive potholes, it made for a white knuckle ride to be remembered.

We can thoroughly recommend the area, the b & b we stayed at, and the castle itself, which also offers accommodation of various kinds. I can't wait to go back at a time when we won't be spending the entire weekend knee deep in mud!

There are less photographs than I would like - it was too cold for our digital camera to work!
