Shades of Autumn

We're creeping into autumn here. The strawberries have somehow found the energy to product a little more fruit, but it's not going to ripen so we're leaving it for the mice or birds, whichever gets there first! The garden chrysanthemums are finally beginning to flower (really late this year) whilst next doors garden is a riot of pink dahlias.

I improvised this bird bath during the heat of the summer, and it's kind of been left to its own devices since we put it out. Mother nature's done the refilling, and the birds seem to enjoy drinking and bathing in it! Now mother nature's added a little prettiness to it, all on her own.

The last hoorah of flower heads on the old fashioned scented rose.

The cats are seeking out cosy wee spots to snooze in. Iggy likes our bed when it's piled with soft cosy blankets that he can snuggle down into, whilst Pixie has decided that she prefers the cat bed on top of the tallest cupboard in the dining room. There's a regular small thud as she comes down for snacks and attention, and an equally regular scrabble of claws as she launches herself from the windowsill to the top of it when heading back for another 40 winks. Even at 11 years old she's still confident enough to jump significant distances (although she does take a moment to gauge distances now, while she just leaped without looking when she was younger).

Middle age, it appears, is creeping up on all of us.
