Shown above is my first thistle brooch produced for a charity fundraising auction. I'm planning on doing three in total, changing the ladybird to a bumblebee and a butterfly. Originally I tried to crochet the insects too but I just could not cope with the tiny stitches and took the easy route with felt, beads and embroidery. Still cute though, huh?
Crafters and artists were asked to donate something they'd made, using the Scottish thistle as their inspiration. So far the donations include some stunning glasswork and quilting, as well as paintings and drawings.
Whilst the auction is being held in Portsoy, north of Aberdeen, and the charities they will donate all funds raised to will be local to that area, I decided that it would be a lot of fun to be involved.
