Well, it had to happen one day......

We all make mistakes.

I try not to, but sometimes, being human gets the better of me and I mess up. This week I completely and utterly stuffed up an alterations job. It wasn't a small problem. It was a MASSIVE problem.

I fitted the garment, pinned the hem into place (it was too long) and then gaily set about with my scissors, cutting the excess off and stitching up the new hem.

Oh b*gger. It was too short. Now, the client is nearly 6 foot tall, so a long dress that was too short on her looked ridiculous.

However, the saying goes that it's not the mistake but the recovery that counts, and thank crunchie, I managed to recover and turn a potentially unwearable garment into one that was the perfect length and left the client comforted, if not 100% mollified. It's shaken my confidence though and I'll definitely be more careful with things in the future..

The lesson I've learned?

Never trust chiffon. Always double check it before you make that final cut.

I have another chiffon dress to adjust now, and I'm going to be doing THAT one with an extra fitting, just to be sure! Once bitten, twice shy.
